Summer Arts and Music Festival

This year CASA will be participating in a music festival to be held on Saturday, September 24, 2011, from 10:00 A.M. until 6:00 P.M. The festival will be in downtown Jonesboro at the Historical Courthouse. There will be food, activities, arts and crafts, and local business vendors, as well as live music throughout the day. New Training Opportunity!

National CASA has developed a new training that will incorporate in-class learning with on-line course work. Clayton County CASA will be participating in this pilot program. For any prospective volunteers interested in participating, please check back for upcoming training dates and times. All regular requirements for becoming a CASA volunteer do apply, in addition to specific technological requirements and skill levels.

2011 CASA Volunteer Recognition

In appreciation for all the hard work and dedication of our CASA volunteers, this year’s volunteer recognition reception was held at the Lake Spivey Country Club. CASA volunteers, board members, and staff enjoyed great food, fun, and fellowship. A huge congratulations goes out to this year’s Volunteer of the Year, Alice Zacharie. FEBRUARY

CASA staff, volunteers, board members, and foster youth will join our state legislators on February 8, 2011 for the annual CASA and Foster Youth Day at the Capitol. CASA programs from all around the state will participate. If you are unable to attend this year, we hope that you can join us next year!

MARCH

Family and friends plan to join CASA staff, CASA board and our court administration and judges for our 43rd CASA swearing-in ceremony. With each class of CASA volunteers graduating, our CASA program is rapidly moving forward in our attempts to serve each child involved in the court system due to abuse or neglect here in Clayton County.

Starting March 19 through March 22, the National CASA Association is holding their annual National CASA Conference. Held this year in Chicago, Illinois, CASA volunteers, staff and board members from around the country will come together with leading consultants and legal and social service professionals to identify ways to improve service provision to children who have been abused and neglected. APRIL

Saturday, April 16 is the annual Georgia CASA conference. Volunteers, board members, and staff from around the state will come together for this excellent training and networking opportunity. JUNE

SEPTEMBER

Come join us for our 13th Annual Darlin’ Duck Derby. We plan to make this event bigger and better than ever, in celebration of our thirteenth year! With even more prizes, food, entertainment, and fun for all, this is one duck race that you do not want to miss!! Mark your calendar for September 24, 2011, and be prepared to be wowed when you join us at the Jonesboro Historic Courthouse, located at 121 S. McDonough Street in downtown Jonesboro. A big thanks goes out to Hewitt Associates in Atlanta for participating in this year’s holiday toy drive. Together with the Ambassadors Behind CASA (ABCs), the Clayton County Sheriff’s Department, The Clayton County Police Department, the Tax Assessors Office, and other community organizations, gifts will be provided to many needy families in our community.
